KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok says she has identified nearly 40 homeowners who have fallen prey to online renovation scams.

Kok said that the victims had ended up in a mess after placing their trust in contractors who had promised dream renovations in social media postings and websites.

“The sad thing is that some of them are first-time homebuyers. They saved money for decades to buy a house. They had homes they had dreamed of, and they wanted them to have a certain design.

“In the end, these contractors messed up their houses,” she said at the launch of a video to warn people about these scams.

"Saya harap majikan dapat tampil bertemu dengan JTKSM bagi mendapatkan nasihat untuk memastikan penginapan yang mereka sediakan kepada pekerja menepati syarat termaktub di bawah akta," katanya kepada pemberita selepas Op Walit di beberapa buah premis di Taman Tiram di sini pada Ahad.

Dalam operasi itu, sebanyak lapan blok rumah kedai yang dijadikan asrama untuk pekerja tempatan dan warga asing membabitkan pelbagai sektor pekerjaan, telah diperiksa.

Most of the residents, especially those with families, have had to make do with such living conditions.

Finally, they are able to breathe a sigh of relief as the federal government, through the Defence Ministry, allocates additional funds to carry out repair and maintenance work at RKAT schemes for the comfort of its occupants.

Craftsman Muhammad Aidid Mat Azenan, 26, a member of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Corps at the camp, said that he was really looking forward to the RKAT renovation project, considering the sad condition of the premises due to lack of maintenance.

"When I was first transferred to this camp, I was taken aback when I saw the unsatisfactory condition of the house. Damaged electrical wiring, faded paint and even a clogged toilet were among the main problems when I first moved here.

PETALING JAYA: Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan tidak berhasrat mengarahkan pihak berkuasa tempatan (PBT) melaksanakan larangan meletak kenderaan di depan rumah seperti Majlis Bandaraya Pasir Gudang (MBPG).

Exco Pembangunan Kerajaan Tempatan, Perumahan dan Pengangkutan negeri, J Arul Kumar, bagaimanapun berkata tindakan boleh diambil jika ada aduan kenderaan diparkir menghalang lalu lintas.

“Biasanya setiap rumah hanya boleh memuatkan dua kereta di ruang parkir rumah mereka yang menyebabkan kereta lain perlu diletakkan di luar.

“Keadaan itu memang tidak dapat dielakkan. Tetapi yang selalu jadi masalah bila ada yang tidak bertanggungjawab, parkir kereta sehingga menyusahkan jiran lain yang boleh menyebabkan pergaduhan,” katanya menurut Sinar Harian.

JOHOR BAHRU - Pihak Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) akan bertindak sekiranya mendapat aduan berhubung kewujudan 'bilik sangkar burung' atau bilik sewa sempit di daerah itu.

Datuk Bandar Johor Bahru, Datuk Noorazam Osman berkata, berdasarkan akta pihak berkuasa tempatan (PBT), bilik sempit itu tidak dibenarkan kerana melanggar syarat-syarat ubah suai yang sepatutnya.

"Saya percaya 'bilik sangkar burung' itu wujud di bandaraya ini, khususnya membabitkan pekerja asing cuma kami masih belum mendapat aduan daripada orang awam.

"Justeru, kita harap masyarakat dapat menyalurkan aduan bagi memudahkan tindakan selanjutnya dilaksanakan," katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas mengenai kemungkinan wujud 'bilik sangkar burung' di sekitar Johor Bahru.

KUALA LUMPUR - Selepas sembilan hari pendedahan Sinar Harian berhubung bilik sewa sangkar burung, Kementerian Pembangunan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) melalui Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) serta pasukan polis telah membuat satu pemeriksaan mengejut berkaitan aduan awam terhadap premis tersebut, pada khamis.

Serbuan yang diketuai oleh Menteri KPKT, Nga Kor Ming bersama Timbalan Ketua Pengarah (Operasi) JBPM, Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad itu dilakukan pada jam 1 tengahari untuk meneliti sendiri bangunan kedai yang telah menyalahi undang-undang kerana mengubah suai premis dengan menempatkan 38 bilik sewa kapsul di ibu kota.

Operasi khas ke atas premis menghapus bahaya kebakaran (MBK) itu dimulakan dengan sesi taklimat di Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Pudu sekitar jam 12 tengahari sebelum konvoi menteri bersama bomba dan beberapa pengamal media tiba di lokasi kejadian, satu jam kemudian.

Pemeriksaan premis itu dimulakan di tingkat dua yang mana ia menempatkan sebuah bilik kotor dan sempit sehingga menimbulkan keadaan berbahaya kepada penyewa.

Sejurus masuk ke bilik tersebut, menteri terpaksa berengsot ke dinding dan menahan bau busuk yang menusuk hidung sesiapa sahaja di kawasan itu.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is on track to build 500,000 affordable homes by the end of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the presentation of the mid-term review of the 12MP said that 108,373 units of affordable homes have been built until the end of last year.

"In the matter of housing, the government is always careful and has mades it a main agenda that cannot be compromised.

"We are aware that house prices and rising rental rates have burdened the people," he said in parliament today.

He also said the main shift in Public Housing will continue to be improved through the transition from the concept of ownership to the concept of residence.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government is planning to introduce a new category of affordable housing for households earning a combined income of RM5,000.

The house, priced at RM100,000 each, is meant for young graduates who have just started working.

State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the proposal would be brought to the state executive council and state planning committee (SPC) for approval.

"We expect to obtain the necessary approvals by November before introducing it to the target group

"We see a need to introduce this new category of affordable housing as there is none now for households earning a combined income of RM5,000. What we have is for households earning a combined income of RM3,000 and RM8,000.

"So, we need to address this gap to ensure our people are able to buy houses according to their income," he said today.

Sundarajoo said the new category of affordable housing would have a 750sq ft built-up.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) is working on a new law to ensure systematic, well-planned, and effective urban renewal efforts that would help the country's economy grow.

Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said that the special law was drafted in collaboration with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and the Town and Country Planning Department.

Urban renewal includes redevelopment, regeneration, revitalisation, and conservation.

Currently, urban renewal is being carried out through nine existing legislations and laws, with legislation encompassing numerous ministries, departments, and organisations.

Among them are the National Land Code, Town and Country Planning Act, Contracts Act, and Land Acquisition Act.
