Tenaga Nasional Bhd. (TNB) menafikan satu mesej tular dalam media sosial kononnya Ahli Lembaga Pengarah TNB telah menerima arahan kerajaan untuk menaikkan tarif elektrik sebanyak 30 peratus.TNB dalam kenyataan memberitahu, mesej tersebut yang kononnya ditulis oleh seorang pekerja TNB adalah palsu dan tidak berasas.Selain itu, jelas kenyataan itu lagi, TNB tidak mempunyai warga kerja seperti yang dinamakan dalam mesej berkenaan.“Justeru TNB menasihatkan orang ramai untuk mengabaikan mesej tersebut dan tidak berkongsi akan mesej tular berkenaan. Untuk makluman, tarif elektrik ditetapkan oleh pihak Suruhanjaya Tenaga,” jelas kenyataan tersebut.

Justeru, TNB harus tampil dengan solusi baru dan munasabah untuk mengira bil secara prorata ketika ini diragui oleh masyarakat. En. Saravanan Thambirajah selaku Presiden Persatuan Pengguna dan Tenaga Malaysia berpendapat "Kesilapan teknikalnya adalah bagaimana mereka membuat pengiraan bacaan anggaran. Ujar beliau kita perlu tunggu hasil laporan Kementerian terlebih dahulu sebelum mengambil apa-apa tindakan."

EACH year, World Water Day is celebrated today (March 22) with special attention on water and to inspire people to manage it sustainably and effectively. The date was officially assigned by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 and now it is celebrated worldwide in various ways — educational campaigns, musical shows, marathons or fundraising.

Every year, UN-Water will select a theme and collaborate with other UN organisations which share an interest in the year’s focus. When 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by the UN, all the countries foresee a free world where all life can prosper and no one is left behind. Hence, this year’s World Water Day theme is Leaving No One Behind — it aims to tackle water crisis by addressing reasons why marginalised groups (women, children, indigenous people, refugees, disabled people) do not have access to safe and clean water. UN-Water also emphasises that water services must meet the needs of these marginalised groups and include their voices in the decision-making process.

 Globally, about 166 million people from 18 countries are affected by water scarcity while about 270 million people from 11 countries are living under water stress issues. On the other hand, some 900 million people lack improved water supply access worldwide, and two thirds are from Asia.

KUALA LUMPUR - Sistem perbankan teras Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) mengalami gangguan sejak pukul 6.10 pagi 19 Januari (Sabtu), dan menjejaskan operasi perbankannya di semua cawangan dan saluran perbankan automatik, kata Pengerusinya, Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah.

Kemudahan Kad Kredit BSN bagaimanapun terus beroperasi seperti biasa.Dalam kenyataan, Abu Bakar berkata, bank itu telah mengenal pasti punca gangguan dan dalam proses memperbaikinya, selain mengambil semua langkah yang perlu untuk memastikan integriti sistem mantap sebelum kembali beroperasi.

"Dalam kami menangani gangguan ini, kami bersedia melayani pelanggan.

"Bermula 21 Januari (Isnin), kami menyediakan perkhidmatan secara manual terpilih di cawangan kami, membenarkan pengeluaran wang tunai sebanyak RM500 sehari untuk pekerja yang dibayar menerusi akaun Akauntan Negara dan pesara, manakala RM200 sehari untuk pelajar yang mengekalkan akaun mereka dengan bank itu," katanya.

Abu Bakar berkata, BSN meminta maaf atas kesulitan yang dialami, dan menghargai kesabaran dan sokongan pelanggannya.Bank juga telah berusaha untuk memastikan sistem dipulihkan untuk operasi penuh secepat mungkin, katanya."Kami mahu memberi jaminan kepada semua pelanggan bahawa semua simpanan dan deposit selamat dan dilindungi.

The flip-side to this means that we have truly become a nation of couch potatoes.But it is a win-win situation for the restaurants as well as online delivery companies.The restaurant increases sales while the delivery company gets a percentage. It is even simpler with large fast-food chains who cut out the middleman by employing their own delivery service and dealing directly with the customer.The sheer number of food delivery apps available here is mind-boggling. I counted 11 of them, including popular ones like GrabFood, dahmakan, Delivereat and Foodpanda. And more and more companies are getting on the bandwagon. But have you stopped to think about how your meal gets delivered to you?

The demand for these services has seen a spike in the number of delivery riders on Malaysian roads. They are literally everywhere.You would not have failed to notice them, with their bright green or pink or prominent fast-food logo delivery bags fastened to their back seats.We appreciate the services rendered by these delivery riders, rain or shine, to get our food to our doorsteps. But the risks they take while doing their job is very worrying.A friend recently sent me a viral video of a delivery rider beating a red light and getting hit by an oncoming vehicle in Damansara Perdana. Actually, there are a few such viral videos out there. I have also had two close calls with these motorcyclists.The most recent happened last week in my neighbourhood. The rider in front of me, slowed down, sped up and then swerved to the right. As this happened about 10m in front of me, I had a first-hand look at the motorcycle rider, even as I tried to stop myself from colliding with him. The rider was checking his handphone with one hand while manoeuvring his bike with the other.

The reasons for road traffic accidents are multiple and include rapid urbanisation, poor safety standards, lack of enforcement, people driving distracted or fatigued, influence of psychoactive drugs and alcohol, speeding, and failure to wear seat belts or helmets.

Malaysian data

Malaysia has the third highest fatality rate from road traffic accidents in Asia and Asean, behind Thailand and Vietnam.These fatality rates are similar to that of some African countries.By comparison, the fatality rates in developed countries are all in single digits.Transport accidents (5.4%) were the fourth most common cause of death in Malaysia in 2016, behind ischaemic heart disease (13.2%), pneumonia (12.5%) and cerebrovascular disease (6.9%).It was the third most common cause of death among men behind ischaemic heart disease and pneumonia, according to the Department of Statistics.There has been no change in the Malaysian fatality rates since 2007.The Global Status Report on Road Safety published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank in December 2018 reported that Malaysia had 7,152 deaths in 2016, of which 87% were males and 13% females.In the same year, there were 27,613,120 registered vehicles, comprising 13,123,638 cars and four-wheeled light vehicles, 12,677,041 motorised two and three wheelers, 1,191,310 heavy trucks, 59,977 buses and 561,154 other vehicles.
