Kadar inflasi September susut 1.4 peratus

PUTRAJAYA: Indeks Harga Pengguna (IHP), yang mengukur kadar inflasi menguncup 1.4 peratus pada September, demikian menurut Jabatan Perangkaan Malaysia (DOSM).
Ketua Perangkawan, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, berkata penurunan pengukur kadar inflasi negara keseluruhan itu dipengaruhi oleh penurunan indeks Pengangkutan (-9.9 peratus); Perumahan, Air, Elektrik, Gas & Bahan Api Lain (-3.0 peratus) serta Pakaian & Kasut (-0.6 peratus) yang menyumbang 41.6 peratus daripada keseluruhan wajaran.
"IHP bulanan tidak menunjukkan perubahan berbanding Ogos 2020. Walaupun begitu, terdapat kumpulan utama yang menunjukkan peningkatan iaitu Restoran & Hotel (0.2 peratus); Minuman Alkohol & Tembakau (0.1 peratus); Hiasan, Perkakasan & Penyelenggaraan Isi Rumah (0.1 peratus); Perkhidmatan Rekreasi & Kebudayaan (0.1 peratus) dan Pendidikan (0.1 peratus)," katanya dalam satu kenyataan.
Mengulas lanjut, beliau berkata, walaupun beberapa indeks utama menurun, namun Makanan & Minuman Bukan Alkohol sebaliknya menunjukkan peningkatan 1.4 peratus kepada 135.1 berbanding 133.2 pada bulan yang sama tahun sebelumnya.
"Kumpulan ini menyumbang 29.5 peratus daripada keseluruhan wajaran IHP. Selain itu, indeks Pelbagai Barangan & Perkhidmatan turut menunjukkan peningkatan 2.7 peratus diikuti Komunikasi (1.6 peratus) dan Kesihatan (1.1 peratus)," katanya.

Kuala Lumpur: Hasrat seorang wanita untuk kelihatan cantik bertukar tragedi apabila dia meninggal dunia ketika mendapatkan rawatan proses sedut lemak di pusat kecantikan di sebuah pusat beli-belah di Cheras, semalam.
Difahamkan mangsa berusia 23 tahun itu melakukan prosedur sedut lemak sebagai persediaan untuk melangsungkan perkahwinan dengan kekasihnya yang juga warga Afrika Selatan pada tahun hadapan.
Ketua Polis Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Saiful Azly berkata, mangsa dikatakan berkunjung ke pusat kecantikan itu jam 2.30 petang semalam.
"Siasatan awal mendapati pusat kecantikan itu berdaftar secara sah, namun tidak mempunyai kepakaran untuk melakukan proses sedut lemak.
"Namun, pusat kecantikan yang dimiliki seorang wanita dan anak perempuannya itu tetap meneruskan prosedur sedut lemak berkenaan selepas dikatakan menerima desakan daripada mangsa," katanya pada sidang media di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Sentul, hari ini.
Saiful Azly berkata, ketika mangsa menerima suntikan pada tangannya, dia mengalami masalah kesukaran bernafas selain muka dan badannya menjadi pucat sebelum pengsan.
"Pihak pusat kecantikan itu kemudian menghubungi ambulans dan mangsa dikejarkan ke hospital, namun disahkan meninggal dunia.

Henti tugas keempat-empat LRA ini terpaksa dilaksanakan berikutan pencemaran yang telah dikesan pada sumber air mentah di Sungai Selangor.
Justeru itu, gangguan bekalan air tidak berjadual dijangka akan berlaku di beberapa kawasan di 7 (tujuh) wilayah iaitu di Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak dan Kuala Langat bermula jam 10.00 pagi ini. Senarai penuh kawasan yang terjejas akan dimaklumkan dari semasa ke semasa menerusi semua medium komunikasi Air Selangor termasuk Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, aplikasi Air Selangor dan laman sesawang kami di www.airselangor.com.
Air Selangor bersama Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) sedang mengambil tindakan pantas bagi mengatasi insiden pencemaran ini dengan kadar segera.
Para pengguna dinasihatkan agar menggunakan air secara berhemat.
Three districts in Kelantan face water disruption until Saturday

KOTA BARU, Aug 27 — Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) is providing six lorry tankers in tackling the water supply disruption in Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kota Baru, involving 38,018 accounts, from today until Saturday.
AKSB Corporate Communications and Training Department head, Mat Noor Awang said the disruption was due to emergency repair works on the broken raw water supply pipeline (GRP-type of size 1,100 mm) at Kampung Pulai Chondong, by the appointed contractor.
“The works begin today and expected to be completed on Saturday at 10pm. It will take three days due to a major leak and the pipe depth at the site.
“As such, the Merbau Chondong water treatment plant in Machang stops operating temporarily to facilitate the repair works,” he said at a press conference, here, today.
Mat Noor said AKSB had arranged for 24-hour water delivery by lorry tankers throughout the disruption period, besides supplying water to static tanks for the affected customers.

SEREMBAN - Sebahagian kawasan di Kuala Pilah, Tampin dan Jempol akan mengalami gangguan bekalan air sementara bermula 8 pagi pada 18 Ogos hingga 8 pagi, 19 Ogos.
Ketua Bahagian Perhubungan Awam Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd (SAINS), Norzita Ismail dalam kenyataan di sini hari ini berkata, gangguan tersebut berikutan kerja-kerja penyelenggaraan pencawang stesen suis utama (SSU) Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) dan penyelenggaraan Loji Rawatan Air (LRA) Kuala Jelai di Bahau, Jempol.
Di Kuala Pilah, gangguan melibatkan seluruh kawasan Kampung Terentang, Kampung Padang Lebar, Kampung Sungai Jelutong, Kampung Ghalib, Kampung Keru, Kampung Pasir Ambor, Kampung Juasseh Tengah, UiTM Beting, Kampung Beting, Kampung Pelangai, Kampung Gentam, Kampung Dioh, Kampung Sungai Dua Kecil, Kampung Sungai Dua Besar, Kampung Dioh Seberang Pekan, Taman Fatimah, Taman Permai dan Flat Gentam.

Arsenic was also detected in these protein powders.
Before assuming the type of protein powder that has detected amounts of lead, take a further look at their research. The Clean Label Project actually found plant-based protein powders to be worse in terms of detected levels of heavy metals (75% of them tested positive), as well as the protein powder that is considered organic. Certified "organic" protein powder products had an average of two times more heavy metals compared to the non-organic products tested.

Covid-19: Scientists test 14 types of face masks, discover bandanas, neck fleeces offered least protection

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — With so much debate surrounding which face mask is best to stop the spread of Covid-19, scientists at Duke University in North Carolina carried out a study to find an answer.
Researchers tested out 14 types of face masks and coverings, including N95 masks with and without exhalation valves, surgical masks, two-layer style masks of various materials, bandanas and neck fleeces.
They found that a fitted N95 mask with no valves was the most effective face mask to curb the risk of Covid-19 while the least effective form of face mask was a neck fleece.
In fact, neck fleeces were found to increase the risk of infection by recording a droplet transmission fraction of 110 per cent.
On the other hand, a fitted N95 mask without valves, commonly used by frontline healthcare workers, recorded a droplet transmission fraction of 0.1 per cent in stark contrast.
The study which was published in the Science Advances academic journal last week compared the number of droplets dispersed from a participant’s breath while wearing one of the 14 coverings against a control trial where their mouth was fully exposed.
“We were extremely surprised to find that the number of particles measured with the fleece actually exceeded the number of particles measured without wearing any mask,” Duke University researcher Martin Fischer told CNN.
6,187 scammed by online sellers

ONLINE shopping scams were rampant during the movement control order between March and June, according to statistics by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Its Enforcement Command Centre showed that e-commerce scams topped the list of complaints received in the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya followed by Selangor.
The ministry’s head of Investigation, Exhibit and Operation Division Shamsul Nizam Khalil said the scams mostly occurred in big cities like Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Johor Baru and George Town, and involved millions of ringgit.
“Based on our records up to June 30, online scams topped the list with a whopping 6,187 complaints.
“In June alone, 2,287 complaints were received, a big jump from the 5,415 cases reported for the whole of last year, ” he said, adding that this included complaints on piracy issues.
